Religious Sisters

St. John of God Sisters

The congregation of the Sisters of St. John of God was founded in Ireland in 1871, when a group of women led by Bridget Clancy, responded to a call by Thomas Furlong, the Bishop of Fems in County Wexford, to minister to the sick and destitute people of his diocese.

We are a group of women who live in community and seek to centre our lives on God through prayer and contemplation. Sharing our faith with others we invite them to explore the mystery of God revealed through themselves, others and all creation.

Our vision statement for today is

Immersed in God's love and compassion for all creation:

  • We relate to all people and to planet earth in ways that are mutually transforming
  • We collaborate with others in creating and sustaining a just world, where all may experience the loving face of God.

We respond to the needs of to day's world by our involvement in the areas of healthcare, education and a variety of other pastoral ministries in Ireland, England, Pakistan, Australia
and South Africa.
