Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary
We are a group of vowed women who, in collaboration with our associates, auxiliaries, co-workers and volunteers endeavour to work with the poor to identify and transofrm underlying causes of suffering and seek to meet practical needs in a compassionate way.
Our Origin
The congregation of the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary traces its origin from the French religious institute founded in 1866 by Father Victor Braun. Our early sisters served the poor in the industrial cities, towns and villages throughout England, Scotland and Wales. Our first Irish foundation was made in Cork in 1922. Since then the congregation has spread to California, Zambia, Colombia, El Salvador, Uganda and the Philippines.
The mission of our congregation today is aptly summed up in the words of our founder, Fr. Braun "There are two things in life, Jesus Christ and the poor."
